We run non-vocational courses for leisure or self improvement. The courses are free and offer a chance to learn new computer based skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Digital Photography


Who is the course for?

Anyone interested in what to do with digital photos once they have been taken.

What is it?

Learn the basics of image manipulation, various output options and uses for digital images.

Content:

  • Download images and save using the appropriate image format
  • Use of photoshop elements for image manipulation and restoration of old photographs
  • Use video and sound

Duration:

7 sessions, 3 hours per week.

Cost:

Free to unemployed Kirklees residents. £6 per session if employed for more than 16 hours. £140.00 for non Kirklees residents.

Assessment/Exam Methods:

Not applicable.

Progression:

Level 1 or 2 iTQ Digital Imaging.

Entry requirements:

Basic keyboard and mouse skills.

Qualification:

Not applicable.


Family History


Who is the course for?

Anyone interested in tracing their family history using I.T. as an aid.

What is it?

An introduction to the basics of the popular science and pastime of genealogy.

Content:

  • Produce a family tree
  • Find lost relatives
  • Research 1841 – 1901 censuses
  • Find useful websites and download data from Internet

Duration:

6 sessions, 2 hours per week.

Cost:

£4 per session if paid weekly or £21 per course if paid at start.

Assessment/Exam Methods:

Not applicable.

Progression:

Personal research with support.

Entry requirements:

Basic keyboard and mouse skills.

Qualification:

Not applicable.

What is it?

Learn the basics of managing your finances and balancing your income and expenditure.

Content:

  • Manage your finances
  • Balance income and expenditure
  • Reduce expenditure Shop online and use a spreadsheet

Duration:

5 sessions 3 hours per week.

Cost:

Free to unemployed Kirklees residents. £6 per session if employed for more than 16 hours. £140.00 for non Kirklees residents.
