Research from the Confederation of British Industry found that employers in this country are concerned with workers’ low levels of basic skills. Many workers nowadays lack the ability to compose coherent memos or calculate price discounts in their heads for example and this affects their “employability”.
Anyone who wants to improve their Literacy & Numeracy skills and be able to use these in everyday situations, such as work, helping your children with homework and taking an active part in the community.
There are no formal entry requirements for these qualifications.
Progression:
Learners may progress from Entry 1 to Entry 2, to Entry 3, to Level 1 and up to Level 2 (which is equivalent to an A-C GCSE).
From there, learners can access a range of courses in colleges and universities. However, our courses not only prepare you for further education; they are also vital in the world of work.
Duration:
The courses go at the pace of the learners, but typically a course lasts 4-5 months, meeting once a week.
Cost:
Free to unemployed Kirklees residents. Those working more than 16 hours/week may be asked to pay a small fee.
Assessment/Exam Methods:
Entry Level classes are assessed by the tutor and externally moderated. Level 1 and 2 classes are assessed by end of course exam.
Qualification:
Learners who complete the course successfully will receive a certificate at the relevant level.
